Old Friends Are Like Gold

I met up with a few old friends last Friday.

We knew one another since we were 13, back from our secondary school days. The bonding factor was the church we went to.

It was a great gathering. Nice food, great time. We updated one another on the going-ons in our lives, albeit briefly. Strangely, we all felt that each other still looked 'the same' from the time we first knew each other. My sister remarked that we are in denial.

Among us, I was the only one who became a mother. Two were married and one was still single, attractive as she was. From our conversation, I could sense that we - our personality - did not change much from our secondary school days. Amazing! The flippant one was still flippant, the beautiful, kind and humble one remained unchanged even though she was still as beautiful as ever, the pretty and simple one was still the same - pretty and simple, yet single. I guess in this aspect, and many other aspects, men are more susceptible to changes than women.

We could chat like we used to when we were just teens, just that the topics had changed. From our different types of fears, insecurities and parental issues, we talked a little about marriage, children and a few of our old friends, mainly schoolmates.

One thing we agreed in consensus: we sure hoped to meet up again soon!
